80GB PlayStation 3 (PS3) consoles hit the market

80 GB playStation3 Sony has officially launched the 80GB version of its PlayStation 3 gaming console for sale both online and in stores in the US and Canada. The new system also has the off-road racing game MotorStorm and the entire package comes for $599 (approx 24000 INR).

The comparatively larger capacity of the PS3 allows gamers to download and store more games and media through the game console as the number of games and multimedia content from Sony continues to grow, leading to growth in demand.

The 60GB PS3 is available in the market along with this new high-end version retailing for $499 (approx 20,000 INR) with a recent increase in sales after the recent price drop. Currently more than 60 playable games and game-related downloads are available through the PlayStation Network.

Both, the 60GB and 80GB versions have the same architecture and come standard with 1080p HD video output, Wi-Fi connectivity, a Sixaxis wireless game controller and built-in Blu-ray Disc player.

Sony said the new machines will “appeal to online gaming and entertainment enthusiasts” looking for additional storage space to download games and additional content such as movie trailers and images from PlayStation Network.

“The 80GB PS3 offers expanded options in the PS3 family of products for those who want to enjoy more downloadable content,” said Peter Dille, Sony’s senior vice president of marketing. He also added that the new model will provide ample storage space to meet the needs of those who wish to download content today, and for many more years to come.
