Apple MacBook Air refreshed, packs in Thunderbolt support

To back the launch of the Mac OS X Lion, Apple kicks in the new MacBook Air with next generation Intel Core processors and the Thunderbolt interface. Claiming to be highly compact and portable, the device is said to provide twice the performance than its previous generation.

For quick startups, fast data access, improved reliability and high energy efficiency, the laptop is equipped with flash storage. Also, powered by the Core i5 and i7 processors, the device can perform with high speeds outmatching its predecessors. The second generation Intel CPUs are provide users with the needed capability for editing photos, making movies, calls over FaceTime, playing games and editing documents and presentations.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing commented, “Portable, affordable and powerful, MacBook Air is the ultimate everyday notebook. MacBook Air features our most advanced technology and is an ideal match for Lion, especially with its new Multi-Touch gestures, full-screen apps, Mission Control and Mac App Store.”

With a connectivity cable, users can utilize the Thunderbolt technology to gain high speed data transfer and enrich their visual experience with the new Apple Thunderbolt display. Further addition to the features, the notebook includes a multi-touch trackpad supporting gestures like momentum scrolling, tapping, swipe to turn page or switch between full screen apps, pinch to zoom. The full sized backlit keyboard automatically adjusts the brightness using light sensors.

Applications such as Time Capsule which backs up data and AirDrop, for secure transfer of files can be utilized over Wi-Fi. Also, users can wirelessly download apps, games, music and movies from the Mac App Store and iTunes respectively. Adding to the feature list are the high resolution backlit LED display, Bluetooth support and inclusion two USB ports. Meeting the 5.2 Energy Star requirements and achieving EPEAT Gold status, the laptop comes in various options for users to choose from.

The MacBook Air is available in Apple authorized stores starting today. Available in two models, users can decide from a 11” 1.6GHz MacBook with 2GB of memory, 64GB of flash storage at a price of Rs. 56,900 and 4GB RAM, 128GB of flash memory at Rs. 67,900. For the 1.7 GHz 12” model, the options are 4GB of memory and 128GB of flash storage priced at Rs. 73,900 and one with 4GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage for Rs. 89,900. All aforementioned prices are inclusive of VAT. Also available are configure-to-order accessories such as a 1.8 GHz Core i7 processor, additional flash storage, MacBook Air SuperDrive and a USB Ethernet Adapter.
