Dell Mobile DTV-Enabled Netbook coming soon

Dell OMVC logoThe Open Mobile Video Coalition brings mobile television to American citizens by utilizing digital transmission over broadcast TV facilities. They announced at the 2009 National Association of Broadcasters Show the launch of the latest Dell Mobile DTV-enabled netbook dubbed as the Inspiron Mini 10.

They also revealed on the same day that Washington D.C. is selected as a product showcase market for Mobile DTV technology. Four TV stations will also become model stations for technical research and development of device interoperability. Broadcasters will be allowed to test services, features and programming of the Mobile DTV technology late summer for a consumer trial. There will be a full commercial deployment of the Mobile DTV technology later this year. Also the four model stations will serve as system tests and validation markets for device interoperability.

Dell is the latest addition to the array of companies like LG and Samsung which have already contributed to this technology. They have produced an efficient ecosystem for broadcasting to portable and mobile devices. Dell joins the likes of these companies which try to simplify Mobile DTV connection points like encoding and network adaptation. They also strive to perfect these services to satisfy the users’ expectations.

Companies like Samsung and Kenwood have released a range of devices like navigation units and mobile phones which incorporate Mobile DTV technology. Now Dell joins these companies with its latest netbook Inspiron Mini 10 which also includes this technology.

John Thode, Vice President, Dell consumer products – small screen devices comments, “Dell is an industry leader in bringing integrated TV capability to the notebook and netbook categories worldwide, including support for several over-the-air digital broadcast standards on the Dell Inspiron Mini 10. “We believe Mobile DTV is an important development for the broadcast community and its affiliated industries and endorse ATSC Mobile DTV as the emerging standard for the U.S.”

Mobile DTV provide customers high-speed mobility, crisp and clear picture with the wealth of local and national live programming. Various services and business models like free ad-supported and pay services, linear and interactive video are supported by this technology. Content from Web sources and traditional media will also be part of Mobile DTV experience.

The price and availability of Dell’s Mobile DTV-enabled netbook Inspiron Mini 10 is not known.
