Nvidia reveals the Quadro Digital Video Pipeline GPU platform

Nvidia Quadro Digital Video Pipeline

Nvidia announces the release of its very first integrated GPU-based platform called as the Quadro Digital Video Pipeline. This platform enables broadcasters to attain, process and deliver virtual effects to video. This product is integrated with Quadro’s SDI Capture card, SDI Output card, FX professional GPU solutions and Digital Video Pipline SDK.

According to Nvidia, its product is the quickest graphics computation engine for broadcast production in a computer based platform. The latest offering from the company makes a direct path for image processing in and out of the GPU. This enables customers to achieve higher quality broadcasts in real time. The fastest path for capturing and transcoding HD broadcast-quality video can be attained through this platform. It is also used in real-time Internet streaming services.

Jeff Brown, general manager, professional solutions, Nvidia said, “Over the next two years, we’re going to see an even bigger surge in the adoption of on-air broadcast graphics and virtual sets. We can hardly wait to see what the broadcast community will do with this with new technology.”

The Quadro Digital Video Pipeline integrates with the SDI Capture card. Uncompressed video is directly streamed to Quadro SDI-enabled GPU memory. It also has the capability to capture 4 HD-SDI Single link sources all at once. The card supports all SMPTE standard formats such as 3G, 2K, HD and SD. It also includes a monitor out of the primary input.

The Quadro SDI Output card is also integrated with this platform. 2D and 3D effects are composited in real-time with 2K, HD and SD video. It can be synced to the SDI Capture card and genlocked to external house sync.

The Quadro Digital Video Pipeline SDK consists of a software development kit which comprise of APIs, samples and plug-ins. The kit enables applications to easily take advantage of the graphics and data processing pipelines of the GPU. This gives control via the Digital Video Pipeline and enables programmability.

The Quadro FX professional GPU solutions are based on the CUDA parallel computing architecture exclusively from Nvidia. Offered with this card are 240 parallel processing cores, superior features and capabilities, support for next generation Microsoft DirectX 10 and OpenGL applications. Users can choose for this platform from the Quadro FX – 3800, 4800 and 5800 under the Quadro FX professional GPU solutions.

Nvidia Quadro Digital Video Pipeline will be available within the price range of $5,000 (approx. Rs.251,789) to $8,000 (approx. Rs.402,809). This product is expected to arrive in August 2009.
