iUnika GYY Solar Netbook

We have usually seen a solar-powered phone, but have you ever heard about a solar-powered netbook? Well, it’s true that we don’t see this very often.

Here’s a refreshing computing device from iUnika – a European technology company – that boasts off an environment-friendly approach. Called the GYY, this netbook actually gets powered by solar energy.

Slashgear states that it weighs only 700grams and has a 400MHz processor at its heart. The netbook is not only lightweight but energy efficient as well.

Running on a proprietary version of Linux operating system, the solar netbook features 128MB of RAM, a 64GB solid-state drive and an 8-inch display that supports WVGA and up to 800 x 480 pixels of resolution.

The iUnika GYY netbook is slated to reach the European markets by June 2009 for an estimated price of 160 euros (approx. Rs. 10,715).

If we are not mistaken, then the iUnika GYY seems to be the world’s first solar-powered netbook!
