Acer to introduce 16- and 18.4-inch Blu-ray Notebook PCs

Acer logo Apparently, Acer plans to push the sales of Blu-ray notebooks this year. After the dismissal of the HD DVD formats, Acer now predicts that a boost in Blu-ray drives will be noticed first in notebooks as compared to the standalone players.

Acer, who was signed up both the next-gen formats, also plans to unveil Blu-ray drives supporting notebooks, in the second quarter. This decision is precisely backed by the strong reason that most homes do not yet have Full HD (1080p) ready TVs and a notebook with a Blu-ray disc drive and full HD panel will have more advantages over a stand-alone player, according to Scott Lin, president of Acer.

Acer’s two notebooks will come in 18.4-inch and 16-inch screen size that offers HD quality images. The price of the two portable notebooks is around US$1,900-2,240 (approx. Rs. 76,000 – 89,600).

It seems that a notebook with a Blu-ray disc drive and full HD panel will be a better strategy to boost the sales.
