$75 OLPC XO 2.0 Laptop Unveiled

OLPC XO 2 Laptop Roads are clear for the latest laptop launch dubbed OLPC XO 2.0. Unlike the OLPC XO, the price of the next-generation XO laptop would cost around $75 only. It is said to be a highly slimmed-down version of OLPC’s original XO device. It has been developed from a different point of view but the purpose remains the same.

The non-profit organization has introduced the prototype of the latest model that targets at students who can carry it easily while traveling miles away for schooling. The all new and revamped notebook PC boasts to provide a totally new concept of learning devices. Featuring a touch-screen keyboard, the XO 2.0 can manage to offer double screen to dual use at the same time. All you need to do is turn on its side like a book.

Claiming to be half the size of the first-generation device, the XO 2.0 will maintain it’s green and white case with the XO logo in a multitude of colors. The dual-touch sensitive screens ensure of an e-book reading like experience.

Nicholas Negroponte, founder and chairman of One Laptop per Child, explained, “Based on feedback from governments, educators and most important, from the children themselves, we are aggressively working to lower the cost, power and size of the XO laptop so that it is more affordable and useable by the world’s poorest children. The delivery of the first generation XO laptop has sparked tremendous global interest in the project and provided valuable input on how to make the XO laptop an even better learning tool moving forward.”

Nicolas Negroponte, who unveiled the OLPC XO 2 laptop, mentioned that the device will launch in 2010 for an estimated cost of $75. Hope OLPC fulfills the high expectations in the given price.
