Sony delivers New FZ series of Vaio Notebooks

Sony unveiled two new multimedia notebooks that pack power and entertainment into a compact body. The new FZ series of Vaio notebooks comes in multiple configurations, including a premium and standard model.

The premium version plays Blu-ray Disc (BD) high-definition content with full 1080 HD resolution, as well as records, stores and play back personal content on high-capacity BD media. The standard model is equipped with the latest IntelCore 2 Duo processor T7100, a 200GB Hard drive and a DVD dual layer burner. The FZ premium model also has an HDMI connector allowing for easy playback on a high-definition television.

The FZ notebooks, whose weight is less than six pounds, are designed to maximize LCD real estate, integrating space-saving, engineering refinements throughout the framework. Combined with Sony’s patented XBRITE-HiColor technology (on the premium model), the result is a 15.4-inch widescreen display that produces razor-sharp details and crisp, bold colors within the ‘footprint’ of a much smaller notebook.

With the premium model, we are pleased to bring the power of Blu-ray to a portable notebook at an unprecedented price never before seen in Canada.”

The FZ series incorporates an Intel Centrino Duo processor technology and built-in 802.11n wireless LAN technology for high-speed, wireless computing with greater range and reliability than ever before. The model comes pre-installed with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system.

Sony will also present its new FZ series notebook, which includes four machines for home use as well as a model designed for business use in the next weeks. The VGN FZ11Z will be the most powerful of the new home use notebooks.

It will be available in mid-June for around Rs. 1,09,915. It has 15.4-inch LCD screen and a new background lighting system for better visibility. It also includes a Blu-ray drive – a first for a computer with that size screen An Intel Centrino processor gives the device 2 GB of RAM while an Nvidia-GeForce-8400M-GT card provides graphics capabilities.

The rest of the three Sony home-use notebooks will hit stores in mid June with prices ranging from Rs. 65,342 to 76,242. The professional version of Windows Vista Business will be available from mid May at around Rs. 70,794.
