Wipro Infotech, India’s leading IT company recently announced that it is shipping an eco-friendly range of desktops and laptops. The eco friendly range aims at reducing the e-waste in the environment. This new range is named as Wipro GreenWare.
Wipro claims that the ‘green’ PCs will strictly adhere to RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) norms of the European Union (EU). But this does not meant that the new range is meant only for the foreign market.
At the announcement of the GreenWare PCs, Ashutosh Vaidya, Vice President of Wipro’s Personal Computing Division, said, “As a global IT firm with social and corporate responsibilities, we have been at the forefront of addressing the e-waste issue in the environment. GreenWare makes us the first Indian firm to introduce eco-friendly IT products in the markets and regions we operate.â€
Vaidya further promised that the Wipro GreenWare range will be free of hazardous materials like Brominated Flame Retardants (BFR), PVCs, and heavy metals including Lead, Cadmium, and Mercury that are regularly used in PC manufacture.
Wipro has set up a full e-waste management process called Wipro Green Computing, which pans across the entire product lifecycle, right from designing and manufacturing to final disposal.
