Those who aren’t completely in favor of endless conversations or continuous nagging can spare a glance for a device dubbed SpeechJammer, which has been developed by a team from Japan. This speech-jamming gun can apparently ‘jam’ a person’s voice and stop them from speaking.

While there have been many Delayed Auditory Feedback, or DAF devices used for individuals with a stammer, this gadget employs a similar technology to cease the speech of physically able people. Alternately, if the offering is to fall into the wrong hands of maybe, criminals, greedy politicians or repressive governments, it could be used to fuel their ‘evil intentions.’ The gadget can effectively work on a subject standing several meters away. All the wielder has to do is simply take aim and pull the trigger on the device.

“We utilized DAF to develop a device that can jam remote physically unimpaired people’s speech whether they want it or not. [The] device possesses one characteristic that is different from the usual medical DAF device; namely, the microphone and speaker are located distant from the target,” state the researchers as mentioned on Wired.com.

By means of the directional microphone installed in the device, the built-in mechanism detects the target’s vocals. Accessing DAF technology, the gun impedes the targeted person’s speech.

The tool had been showcased just recently by developers Kazutaka Kurihara and Koji Tsukada. They seemed to have been inspired by medical DAF devices, which aided them in creating this jamming gun. Presently, only a prototype of the SpeechJammer has been released. The aforementioned team also released a video which shows the complete working of their innovative brainchild.
