Erascan whiteboard concept stores content as it erases

Erascan

Recently, a new and unique concept dubbed as the Erascan whiteboard eraser was introduced. This device is not the regular plastic and sponge sort of eraser commonly used on whiteboards. It’s an intelligent gadget capable of scanning all the written content from the board as it slides across the surface.

With an appearance that seems to resemble that of a smartphone, a closer look gives away the fact that the Erascan is a technologically advanced, whiteboard eraser that comes integrated with a built-in memory chip. When users swipe it over the board to rub off the written content, this device not only cleans up the slate, but also stores all the matter it wiped away, to the memory chip. According to Yanko Design, the gadget has been created by a bunch of designers including Saharudin Busri, Mohd Nizam Najmuddin, Mohd Rohaizam Mohd Tahar, Nuzairi Yasin and Nazjimee Amat Omar.

The aforesaid designers elaborated, “The design consists of an LCD screen to show the scanned information during the erasing process. It also displays a simple menu allowing the user to select other functions. Navigation control buttons are located below the LCD screen. The letter ‘e’ and the light pipe around the device light up to show that Erascan is in power mode.”

The eraser-scanner combination could prove to be beneficial for usage in office meetings, schools, colleges and any other field wherein, teaching or presenting is required. Since many students do not register or have enough time to jot down what the teacher writes and draws on the board, this device could come in handy for viewing the study matter later on via the memory chip. Besides saving the erased matter, it has been programmed by the designers to automatically recognize handwriting as well as identify web URLS and emails to share the data wirelessly with others.

Since the Erascan whiteboard eraser is still in the concept stage, no word regarding its price or availability has been revealed as of now.
