Top Gadgets of the Month: September 2010

Monthly September

As the rains pack their bags to leave, the temperatures soar high gearing up for the October heat. Along with the rise in temperature, there is also a boost in the number of innovations being introduced into the tech world. We pull out six sizzling hot gadgets from our archives which could assist users in staying connected outdoors as they enjoy the hopefully cooler evenings this season may proffer.

First up on our list is the Creative Sound Blaster Wireless Rock speaker, the ideal audio solution for all those evening outdoor parties and celebrations. A transmitter needs to be plugged into user’s desktops, notebooks, netbooks or laptops via a USB port to enjoy wireless connectivity up to 30 meters. Dancing through the night by pool side shouldn’t be a problem as it proffers six hours of continuous music.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Tab just had to feature in our top six, thanks to all the brouhaha it has created. Powered by Android 2.2 Froyo, this device comes outfitted with a wide 7” TFT touchscreen. Running on a 1GHz Hummingbird application processor, it renders support to Adobe Flash player 10.1 and Media Hub. Sporting dual cameras, the Tab features Samsung Social Hub which proffers handy socializing solutions.

Now for all those picture perfect moments, Sony has recently launched Bloggie Touch cameras namely the MHS-TS20 and MHS-TS10. Endowing users with the ability to snap up 1920 x 1080p high-definition MP4 videos, both of them flaunt 3-inch diagonal capacitive touchscreen encased in its elegantly sleek chassis. These 12.8MP devices are integrated with Bloggie software which allows users to import, edit, and transfer content to popular social networking sites. With simple drag and drop motions, they can upload all those beautiful memories to Picasa Web Albums, Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube.

With Apple making hot waves, we had to throw in the refreshed gadget lineup dished out by the company which consists of the stylish iPod Touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle. The iPod Touch sports a revamped look with a vibrant retina display and the inclusion of FaceTime video calling. Apple dropped the button interface for nano and designed it with a new multi-touch interface which allows users to tap and swipe as well. The shuffle with clickable ring buttons was unveiled with the other attractive offerings in a trimmed down size. Available in peppy colors, the nano and shuffle let music enthusiasts clip it on their apparels for simple portability.

For professional photographers, Olympus doffed the covers off its new flagship compact cameras with built-in Zuiko lens. We just couldn’t afford to miss this one since the moment-freezer is highly customizable and enables aficionados to attach optional accessories. The newly developed model was exhibited at the Photokina 2010 while it is expected to be up for grabs in the first quarter of 2010.

We didn’t need to scratch our heads to pen down this one under our September’s list of hot gizmos. As this bulged out month drew closer to welcome the curtain, BlackBerry caught the public eye with its super-innovative BlackBerry PlayBook. With a 7-inch 1024 x 600 WSVGA capacitive touchscreen, the latest tablet comes packed with 1GHz processor and BlackBerry Tablet OS for convenient multitasking. Professionals can seamlessly check their email, use BBM and more interchangeably on their BlackBerry handset and the PlayBook. Also, a slew of apps is in the pipeline exclusively for the tablet which may be available on the store shelves of the U.S. in early 2011.

With smiles and cheers for October to kick off, reasons to delight in flavored ice-creams, cold drinks and festive fun shouldn’t pin on us for being indulged. Tech fiends may find themselves immersed in a gadget pool with the showering of cooler gizmos to keep up with the burning heat. Until then, we bid goodbye to this month with hopes to get stunned by technological marvels served by the coming month as well.
