The incredibly powerful and innovative offering by RIM is truly a captivating product in the growing tablet marketplace. The company has now enhanced mobile computing with its new BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and BlackBerry Tablet OS.

Offering uncompromised web browsing, true multitasking and high performance multimedia, the tablet is designed with elegant and sleek attributes. Weighing less than a pound, the portable solution adorns a 7-inch LCD, 1024 x 600, WSVGA, capacitive touchscreen with full multi-touch and gesture support.

“RIM set out to engineer the best professional-grade tablet in the industry with cutting-edge hardware features and one of the world’s most robust and flexible operating systems,” commented Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. “The BlackBerry PlayBook solidly hits the mark with industry leading power, true multitasking, uncompromised web browsing and high performance multimedia.”

Powered with 1GHz processor and the latest BlackBerry Tablet OS, the PlayBook offers true multitasking and a highly-responsive, fluid touchscreen experience for apps and content services. The device supports Adobe Flash player 10.1, Adobe Mobile AIR and HTML-5. In addition to its dual high-definition cameras (3MP front facing and 5MP rear facing) for capture and video conferencing, the device also comes equipped with an HDMI-out port for presenting one’s creations on external displays. Besides, the innovation offers exceptional stereo sound and a media player.

BlackBerry smartphone owners can seamlessly pair their handset and the tablet with a safe Bluetooth connection, thereby eliminating the risk of syncing and duplicating data. Compatible with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the tablet puts forth smartphone content, however, the content remains stored on the handset and is only temporarily cached on the tablet.

Developed with the impeccable QNX Neutrino microkernel architecture, the tablet offers enhanced performance, high scalability, Common Criteria EAL 4+ security, and support for industry standard tools. The OS is POSIX compliant, thereby delivering effortless portability of C-based code. It also lends support to Open GL for 2D and 3D graphics apps like gaming. Apart from this, the OS will run applications built in Adobe Mobile AIR and the new BlackBerry WebWorks app platform.

The BlackBerry Tablet OS will support Java and sports symmetric multiprocessing. The PlayBook offers 1GB RAM, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. The video playback supports 1080p HD Video, H.264, MPEG, DivX and WMV, while audio playback supports MP3, AAC and WMA. The device includes connectors like microHDMI, microUSB and charging contacts. The company is also anticipating to roll out 3G and 4G models in the future.

The BlackBerry PlayBook is expected to be available in retail outlets and other channels in the United States in early 2011 and will be sold in other international markets beginning Q2.
