Gaming enthusiasts in the U.S. and Canada need not envy their Japanese counterparts any longer, as the official launch date of the PlayStation Vita for the countries has been declared to be February 22, 2012. Released in Japan just last week, the much awaited handheld gaming device will be available along with almost 100 new titles which are specially being developed for the Vita.
According to the official PlayStation blog, on the first day of the launch, customers will be able to get their hands on 25 games developed by SCE Worldwide Studios and other publishing partners. The rest of the titles will be following soon thereafter, giving users an option of purchasing them through retail stores or downloading the same from the PlayStation Network.
The highly anticipated new games include Escape Plan, Hustle Kings, Little Deviants, ModNation Racers: Road Trip, Super StarDust Delta, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, MLB 12 The Show, Army Corps of Hell, Asphalt Injection, Dynasty Warriors Next and Dungeon Hunter Alliance. Besides these, other titles ready to release on the first day are Dungeon Hunter Alliance, Ben 10 Galactic Racing, Reality Fighters, Lumines Electronic Symphony, Plants vs. Zombies, Rayman Origins and Touch My Katamari, among many others.
The 3G and Wi-Fi enabled PlayStation Vita boasts of an ARM Cortex-A9 core CPU and it will run on the AT&T mobile broadband network. Equipped with front and rear facing cameras, this gaming tool features a six-axis motion sensing system along with a 5-inch 960 x 544p OLED capacitive multi touchscreen. Additionally, it will come integrated six AR Play Cards and a voucher for users to download various augmented reality mini games called AR Play through the PlayStation Network.
The PlayStation Vita is all set to hit shelves of Canada and U.S. on February 22, 2012 and is priced at $299 (approx. Rs. 15,855). The various new games releasing alongside, will be available at prices ranging between $9.99 (approx. Rs.530) and $49.99 (approx. Rs. 2,640).
