Corning Gorilla Glass 2

The second generation of the cover glass, the Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is geared up to build up on the success of its predecessor. This damage resistant material, which can be reinforced on consumer electronics’ displays such as those on smartphones and tablets, will be showcased along with company’s touch technology, large format design aesthetics and more.

The tough and extremely thin glass is said to be capable of resisting damages. The company will be allowing users to get a first hand experience of the applications and benefits of this latest generation glass at the CES. Also, the manufacturer looks forward to exploring new horizons with its integration in larger formats as well as displays for home appliances, automobiles, education and entertainment.

“Corning Gorilla Glass has been a tremendous success for Corning, enjoying excellent market acceptance across mobile device industries. Handset and tablet device manufacturers are clearly driving toward higher functionality from thinner designs. Corning’s latest innovation in Gorilla Glass technology is very well positioned to meet these challenges and enable broader touch technology penetration,” stated James R. Steiner, senior vice president and general manager, Corning Specialty Materials.

At the Consumer Electronic Show 2012, Corning will be showing off an 82-inch multi-touch LCD display prototype fitted with the Corning Gorilla Glass. Also, an automobile interior with multi-touch capabilities will have home appliances center simulators for company. These objects will be exhibiting this material’s intuitive user interface for a smoother experience. Additionally, a Gorilla Glass-covered video wall and speakers will be put up at the show.

Further details regarding the Corning Gorilla Glass 2 will be revealed on January 9. The first generation glass from this company has apparently been utilized by about 30 major brands in over 575 products.
