LG.Philips LCD to introduce an array of Multi-touch LCDs at CES

LG Philips LCD's 52-inch Multi-touch Display

LG.Philips LCD is all set to lift the veil off its 52-inch multi-touch LCD at CES 2008. Along side, the companies will also introduce a 47-inch “triple-view” screen and 42-inch double-sided screen. An 84-inch multi-touch display, which has been developed of four 42-inch panels joined together, will also be showcased.

According to the company, the 52-inch Multi-touch screen is the largest display of its type in the world and 5-inches larger than the one it recently showed in Japan. It makes use of an infrared image sensor that analyzes input from fingers or other instruments. It can also recognize a gesture that includes movements of fingers or more accurate writing instruments. Moreover, the 52-inch display offers full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels), incorporating a 90 Hz touch response time and a light transmission rate of 95 to 100 percent.

Claiming to be the world’s largest and highest resolution, the 47-inch triple-view screen comes with a filter over the front, which has the ability to send light from pixels (920×1080 resolution) in one of the three different directions. This can later display three images at once, allowing viewers on the right, front and the left of the screen. A perfect display for store directories and advertising at shopping malls, it can reproduce 1.07 billion colors along with a brightness of 250 nits.

A 47-inch double-sided screen has been created with the help of a single backlight sandwiched between two LCD panels. It is 30 percent thinner than the normal models, measuring 70mm thickness. Although, its luminance of 500 nits is equal that of regular panels.

LG.Philips LCD’s 42-inch transreflective panel is made of outdoor advertising use offering 1,500 cd/m2 luminance and a special transflective technology. The company has developed a backlight to increase the viewability and readability of an LCD panel during anytime of the day.

Finally, the 84-inch Multi-vision Multi-touch LCD is designed for Interactive Public Displays and features a screen bezel width of merely 15mm, which is 40 percent smaller than the average bezel. This largest screen also provides full HD 1920 x1080 resolution, an omni-directional 180-degree viewing angle and an amazing 500 cd/m2 brightness.
