Panasonic has announced the launch of its latest hybrid camera, called the DMC-GH1 hybrid camera, in the Japanese market.

According to PC World, the Panasonic DMC-GH1 hybrid shooter is expected to reach the store in Japan from April 24, 2009 for a suggested price of ¥150,000 (approx. Rs. 79,275).

Aimed at casual users, the camera is a successor of DMC-G1 and the only difference between the two is that the former comes with video capture mode (in a high-definition resolution), which lacks in the latter. The DMC-GH1 is believed to employ a 12-megapixel Micro Four Thirds System lens mount. It has the ability to take snaps at 12 megapixel of resolution and record a full HD resolution video in the AVCHD format, which is usually utilized by various hard-disk camcorders. Users can store all the still and moving images on a SD card.

It is also whispered that the video is pulled from the camera’s image sensor at 24 frames per second, which is noticed to be less than the 25 or 30 frames per second that is generally experienced on televisions.

The rumored camera would bridge the gap between a compact camera and a bulky SLR, allowing users to take high-end pictures with ease.

Way back in September when the original model was announced, Panasonic had promised to roll out a new camera. As guaranteed, here’s the camera. However, no detailed specifications have been disclosed.

Coming to the cost, the speculated price is ¥30,000 more than the DMC-G1 kit version that has a 45-140mm lens.

The Panasonic DMC-GH1 camera was previewed first at the PMA show in Las Vegas in early March. There is no information of the price and availability date for other markets.
