HP shifts from Digital Camera Market, Now Focuses on Print 2.0

HP logo Hewlett-Packard has announced that they no longer plan to manufacture, distribute and design their digital cameras. The company said that they want to concentrate more on its Print 2.0, home photo printing and online photo services.

However, HP also mentioned that they will prefer selling the cameras under its brand, and is looking for a manufacturer to license the design, build the device and distribute it as well.

In a statement, HP said that they will continue to sell digital cameras till the end of the year and hoping to have the partnership arrangement in place by first half of 2008.

Through the Print 2.0 strategy, HP plans to enhance its Web-based printing services and tools for digital content creation. This new service focuses on three important segments, namely:

  • Delivering a next-generation digital printing platform that increases print speeds and lowers the cost of printing for high-volume commercial markets
  • Making it easier to print from the web
  • Extending HP’s digital content creation and publishing platforms across all customer segments
