New Intel-powered convertible classmate PC revealed

Intel Logo For a fact, innovation and learning have always gone with one accord and manufacturers seem to know the score pretty well. Aligning with it, Intel has recently announced the Intel-powered convertible classmate PC design, joining the existing clamshell design to meet the variety of school students’ needs.

The new flexible reference design transmogrifies instantly from a clamshell to a tablet mode enabling a more intuitive classroom experience. With a purpose to encourage flexible classroom interaction and natural collaboration, the offering comes equipped with a rotational camera, 180-degree swivel design, and impressive touchscreen.

“Education is one of the best ways to improve the future for individuals, villages, or nations. There are 1.3 billion school-age children around the world and of those only 7 percent have access to a PC or the Internet. The IT industry has a huge opportunity to contribute to how technology can improve students’ learning and students’ lives. Intel continues its long-standing commitment to advancing education through technology to transform lives around the world,” elaborated John Davies, Vice President, Sales and Marketing Group and General Manager, Intel World Ahead Program.

Built on Intel architecture and powered by the Intel Atom processor, the convertible device features a water-resistant keyboard and education-oriented software. In addition, its ‘backpack friendly’ aspect protects the gizmo from everyday bumping and accidental drops by students. In tablet mode, the device’s screen has a ‘palm rejection’ feature that is designed to allow users to write more naturally by resting their palm on the touchscreen.

As of now, there’s no official word on the pricing and availability details of Intel’s new convertible classmate PC design.
