Wal-Mart terminates Everex gPCs Sales from Stores, Available Online

Wal-Mart Everex gPC Wal-mart, a leading retailer, has announced that they have discontinued the sales of the Linux-based Everex gPC. However, the company still continues to sell the model on their online store.

The retailer had starting selling the gPC from November with price ranging from $199 to $399 (approx. Rs. 8,000- Rs. 16,000) in nine different Everex models that consist of two Linux laptops and the gPC’s successor gPC2, which is a Linux desktop like the gPC.

The Green PC is based on the gOS Rocket Linux operating system. It comes with icons to launch a number of Google run and other online services. It is equipped with a 80 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, 512 MB of RAM, a VIA C7-D Processor running at 1.5Ghz. The standard peripherals such as speakers, mouse and keyboard as well as the monitor are not included.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Melissa O’Brien explained, “It looks like this particular product serves our online customer space best and that’s where we’ll continue sales of Everex.” The Green gPC had hit 600 Wal-Mart stores and online last year, however, they experienced slow sales in the retail outlet.
