MTNL and Novatium Solutions Logos Recently we had reported about the unique concept of low cost PC from MTNL in partnership with Novatium Solutions. Now MTNL has officially announced the launch of the Nova netPC. This is the first time MTNL is offering a complete computing solution to its customers.

The Nova netPC desktop includes a keyboard, screen, USB ports and it uses a central network server to run software applications and store data.

The Nova NetPC home user package will be available at the price of Rs 1,999 (excl. taxes). Besides, the monitor will cost buyers Rs. 3000 extra. As the PC comes with internet connection, users will have to pay Rs 399 monthly that includes 30 hour Internet access.

The Nova netPC can work with any network server running operating systems like Microsoft Windows, Linux or Sun Solaris.

On the occasion of the launch of this unique PC R S P Sinha, CMD of MTNL said, “MTNL, powered by Novatium’s patented technology, will help take computing to MTNL’s fixed line customers and democratize access to information. With its huge connectivity and infrastructure, MTNL hopes to usher in the computing and broadband revolution in the country.”

While, Alok Singh, CEO, Novatium Solutions Pvt. Ltd. said, “Novatium believes in simple computing for the masses. Novatium’s Nova netPC is an affordable and simple desktop. We have made it very user friendly so that it can now be operated like any household appliance at the touch of a button. We have also included for the first time special features like “parental control” which will enable parents to restrict the usage of certain unwanted internet sites for children. After a successful pilot in Chennai homes, we are now looking at attaining a subscriber base of 25,000 in Delhi by financial year 2007.”

This idea may not work in metros and other big towns in India. But certainly the concept of Nova netPC is useful to make rural India computer literate.

Hi, I’ve been following the recent development in IT sector … Net based PC is the most innovative low cost computing solution for India. It has the potential to reach every household provided the bandwidth of broadband connection is consistent. I have deep interest in its business expansion capability and would also like to contribute to the cause. I am a resident of West Bengal and woud like to know the probability of this technological innovation being part of this eastern sector, with the help of wireless networking using Wimax to optimise it’s customer base in rural sector. I would like to know anyone i can contact with regards to this product for business in Kolkata or it’s adjoining areas.
