Micromax Canvas Fun A74 heats up competition among affordable smartphones

With smartphone’s such as the Micromax Canvas A74 and its affordable siblings entering the market on a daily basis, we doubt that the low-budget handset sector will ever be at the brink of extinction. But this means more options to choose from. So we’ll take it as a good thing for now. It’s only fair that Micromax build the gadget to accommodate dual SIM slots, knowing the significance such phones hold in emerging markets.

The Micromax Canvas A74 stretches as much as 133mm x 67mm x 10.1mm in dimensions to house a 4.5-inch capacitive touch display sharing room with a VGA webcam. Speaking of onboard cameras, there’s a 5MP rear-facing shooter which features a flash. The 1.3GHz processor-packing smartphone could find stiff competition in the form of the Xolo A500S and other similar dual core devices.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean runs the show here and we highly doubt the phone’s future holds an update. Out of the 4GB memory that the manufacturer proffers, only 1.25GB has been set aside of users’ storage needs. So as to compensate for this, the company has embedded an expansion slot which is compatible with a microSD card of up to 32GB. Also, the inbuilt 1,500mAh battery is said to grant up to 5 hours of talk time or 155 hours of standby.

Look for the Canvas Fun A74 at Infibeam, Snapdeal and Saholic, displayed with a price tag of Rs 7,749, while Flipkart has yet to lay hands on the first stock.
