A certain Korean manufacturer has proudly announced that it has shipped 20 million units of its flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II. The phone is currently up for sale in a number of countries across the globe including nations like Korea, India and the U.S.

Samsung has managed to achieve this milestone within 10 months of the phone’s release. It was introduced back in April last year. The sleek and slim phone comes wrapped in a chassis that’s just 8.49 millimeters thick and flaunts a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display. This WVGA screen is reinforced with Corning Gorilla glass to make the device capable of withstanding scratches.

“Since its launch in late April 2011, the Galaxy S II has seen tremendous growth reflecting its tremendous popularity with customers around the world. We are thrilled that 20 million customers around the world have enjoyed the smart life Galaxy S II has brought us. We will continue to introduce products to satisfy our customers’ high expectations,” commented JK Shin, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business.

The handset acquires its multitasking properties from a dual core processor that can clock in a speed of up to 1.5GHz. The Android Gingerbread mobile platform based smartphone arrives equipped with an 8MP primary camera along with a 2MP front facing webcam to let users engage in video conferencing over the web. Complete with an expansion slot, a microUSB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack, it draws power from a 1650mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy S II price in the U.S. is around $229.99 (approx. Rs. 12,040) with a two-year contract, through popular carriers.
