The Harris RF-3590 ruggedized tablet seems like the perfect communication medium for defense and public safety personnel, considering that it boasts of some durable features and a rugged chassis. Offering a smartphone-like user experience, this lightweight device should offer networking connectivity to first responders in order to facilitate real-time information exchange.

The Android based slate flaunts a 7-inch multi-touch display and is compliant with communication platforms like Harris Falcon III, wideband radio networks, 3G as well as 4G LTE. Defense forces can employ the device for viewing videos, accessing databases, governing locations and more in extreme environments. It is also said to seamlessly integrate with the Harris Falcon Networking System and an end-to-end system for access to cloud based services.

“The new Harris tablet builds on our leadership in mission-critical communications to provide a powerful device for processing mission-critical information. This tablet was fully designed for the tactical and public safety environment with optimized features for reading in sunlight and size, weight and power. As an Android device, the tablet also is fully upgradeable for emerging applications,” stated Dana Mehnert, group president, Harris RF Communications.

The company has also made provisions for secure exchange of data via cellular networks with the assistance of an integrated network module. Besides communication, it claims to possess most conventional tablet features such as accelerometer, gyroscope, cameras, digital compass, proximity and ambient light sensors amongst others. The RF-3590 is fueled by a 1.5GHz dual core processor and supports onboard memory up to 128GB. A USB connector, expansion slot and Ethernet ports also form part of the slab.

The Harris RF-3590 ruggedized tablet release date and price have not been revealed. It has been ordered for evaluation purposes.
