LG has recently announced the European launch of the new multimedia mobile phone, called the LG Arena at the MWC.

Also known as LG-KM900, the Arena is touted to be the first global handset to feature Dolby Mobile surround sound for outstanding audio experience.

Based on LG’s new 3D User Interface (UI), the phone boasts to offer a new way of delivering portable entertainment. It flaunts a cube layout that presents four customizable home screens for quick access of features by just a flip of the cube. Supporting multiple faces, the cube ensures four times more shortcuts as compared to a single screen to deliver convenient navigation.

Dr. Skott Ahn, President & CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, mentioned, “What really makes ARENA special is its intuitive 3D S-Class UI, which is unlike anything that has appeared on a phone before. We surveyed consumers and found that they were unhappy with current interfaces. They wanted a simple, fast and fun way to use multimedia and other features, but also an experience that was dynamic and interesting. We’ve done this so well with our brand new S-Class UI that it will set new standards for handsets in both functionality and fun.”

Besides, the KM900 features a 3.0-inch touchscreen display with WVGA resolution, a 5.0 megapixel camera, a music player, a built-in FM transmitter to play music through a car or home system, a range of equalizer presets and a standard 3.5mm audio jack.

Measuring 105.9 x 55.3 x 11.95mm, the Arena phone shows off an onboard memory of 8 GB that can be expanded to around 32 GB via microSD card support. The battery life of the phone is also impressive as it offers up to 30 hours of MP3 playtime and 300 hours of standby time.

In addition to the above mentioned features, the LG-KM900 supports 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi capabilities. It is compatible with Google Mobile Service that comprises of Google search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Blogs as well as A-GPS and geo-tagging.

Although the price is unknown, the LG Arena phone will be available in March 2009 in the European market.
