LG has announced the availability of the LG Versa phone in the American market, exclusively though Verizon Wireless.

Touted to be an MVP (Most Versatile Phone) for customers, the LG Versa embodies an elegant chrome border on a bar design. The main attributes of the slider handset are the attachable QWERTY keypad, an animated touchscreen interface and enhanced internet surfing capabilities along with multimedia functionalities.

At 3.81 ounces and 4.16 x 2.07 x 0.54-inches (H x W x D), it features a 3-inch touchscreen display with a 0.94-inch (56 x 120 pixels) external OLED screen, tactile feedback and a detachable QWERTY keypad. Users can customize the device by using three different home screens and shortcuts support. Compliant with a built-in accelerometer, the phone’s screen has the capability to automatically rotate from portrait to landscape for enhanced comfort.

Additionally, the phone incorporates camera functionalities such as a 2.0 megapixel resolution, autofocus, up to 2x zoom, flash, Face detection and SmartPic technology for improved image quality. The included Image Editor allows users to zoom, rotate, crop, add frames and icons as well as write over images. In addition to still images, users can even record videos at 30 fps and save them in WMV, MP4, 3GP and 3G2 formats. Other camera features include customizable brightness, white balance, shutter sound, color effects, photometry and self-timer.

Coming to the next multimedia specifications, the Versa comes with a music player that supports mp3, .wma, unprotected .aac and unprotected .aac+ formats. Users can create and manage playlists with this phone. They can even make use of other features while listening to music for multitasking. The music aspect of the phone includes a 2.5 mm headset jack, Music Library and Music Only Mode.

All these multimedia files can be saved on a microSD memory card with up to 16 GB of storage space. With the help of the USB and Bluetooth Version 2.1 + EDR, users can transfer files from one device to another.

Supporting the HTML web browser, the LG Versa offers access to Flash and RSS feed for users to keep three windows open and switch from one to the other, just like a PC operation. It is even compatible with Mobile IM for AIM, MSN and Yahoo! along with Mobile Email to access MSN Hotmail, America Online and Yahoo! accounts. Users can even attain latest updates on sports, weather and more from Mobile Web. Moreover, they have the freedom to download games, ringtones and other content via Media Center.

    Expected to reach the market on March 1, 2009, the LG Versa phone can be purchased from Verizon Wireless’ website and retail stores for $199.99 (approx. Rs. 10,225) after a $50 mail-in rebate.
