Android-based Mobile Phones to be developed by NTT DoCoMo and Google

NTT DoCoMo and Google with Android logo Japan’s biggest telecom carrier NTT DoCoMo has announced its plans to develop mobile phones that would be based on Google’s mobile phone platform, called the Android.

Both NTT DoCoMo and Google have also confirmed that the Android-based handset will be compatible with I-mode, the NTT DoCoMo’s popular mobile Internet service.

Takeshi Natsuno, managing director of the multimedia services department at NTT DoCoMo, said “We are starting discussion to offer handsets that will have the Android operating system.”

If you are unaware about this latest platform, then here is some brief information. Android is a Linux-based mobile platform for handsets that combine open-source components. It also includes an OS, middleware stack, customizable user interface and applications.

However, no details of the availability of the Android-based NTT DoCoMo handsets are being given as yet.
