An upgraded version of the Kindle e-reader is now set to enter the market. Amazon has crafted the latest Kindle DX e-reader to offer readers sharper images and clearer text.

The 9.7” electronic ink display exhibits enhanced content with a higher contrast. Users can read through newspapers, blogs, PDFs, magazines and more on the device. The screen of this gadget is designed to enable comfortable reading even under bright conditions. This gadget measures slightly more than an inch and allows users to manage their social circuits on sites like Facebook, Twitter and so on.

Books available through the Kindle Store can be accessed on an array of devices like BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone, Android phones and more. Additionally, the Whispersync technology lets users save the last read page and book libraries on the gadget. The device can also read out content with the text-to-speech feature.

Thanks to wireless 3G connectivity in over 100 counties, readers can download their favorite books through the Kindle Store without monthly or annual contracts. The content can be accessed without the need for a PC setup in less than 60 seconds. Users can also read the first few chapters before downloading.

The Kindle DX e-reader offers access to over 6,20,000 books through the online store that includes a collection of John Grisham titles. Besides, readers can avail of more than 1.8 million pre-1923 books like Pride and Prejudice, Treasure Island and so on for free on the device. The exterior of this device boasts of a graphite enclosure.

Additionally, the device is equipped with a long lasting battery and can save up to 3,500 books, periodicals and documents. It is attributed with a built-in PDF reader and allows users to zoom small and intricate content. The auto-rotating functionality of the screen lets owners read in either portrait or landscape mode by simply turning the e-reader.

New releases and 108 of 111 New York Times bestsellers can be purchased at a price starting from $9.99 (approx. Rs. 460) or less. Previously priced at $489 (approx. Rs. 22,830), the Kindle DX will now be available for $379 (approx. Rs. 17,690) with free 3G wireless and no monthly bills or annual contracts.

Pre-orders for the e-readers have started today through Amazon’s website. The device is expected to arrive for purchase from July 7, 2010.
