Garmin nuvi 1690 to incorporate nuinfo service

Garmin nuvi 1690 PND

Although Garmin plans to remain tight-lipped about its upcoming nuvi 1690, the details of this PND appear to have been leaked. The credit for these leaks goes to the FCC, reports Engadget. A user manual leaked by the FCC indicates that the nuvi is a connected PND. Well, as far as we know connected PNDs have been a thing of the past for quite sometime now.

The Garmin nuvi 1690 reached the FCC for approval approximately fifteen days ago. The documents of this device do not reveal much of its features except that it supports Bluetooth. The recently uncovered users manual or quick-start manual as it is termed reveals a few specifications.

The manuals states that the local data service will be provided by Google. It also list a new feature dubbed nuinfo, we have no idea what this feature is all about but it definitely sounds like a connected service. It is speculated that the nuinfo is a connected search service provided by the company itself. The images of the nuvi 1690 indicate that the device will provide local weather information along with live traffic information and directions.

Apparently, Garmin plans to announce the nuvi 1690 this September. Although the release date and the pricing details of the Garmin nuvi 1690 are still under wraps, we are hoping to see this device in the market soon. Well, we believe that the connected services won’t pull attentions until they are offered for free.
