Pano Logic Virtual Desktop PC Announced

A Silicon Valley startup Pano Logic has launched its first ever true virtualized desktop PCs, which are not embedded with CPU, memory, software drivers, or operating system.

Pano virtual Desktop PC

Without software only hardware desktop device gets connected to keyboard, mouse, display, audio and USB peripherals over an existing IP network to a version of Microsoft Windows Vista or XP running on a virtualized server.

The server-based desktop is immune to worms, viruses, and other malware and without a processor it consumes only 5 watts of power, a fraction of the typical PC electric draw. Pano decreases desktop TCO by 70 % and eliminates the desktop as a security risk by moving all the software off the desktop onto the server.

The company also offers functionality enabled by server virtualization that delivers a complete Microsoft Windows experience with full USB support as well as new range of high-end features that are not found in desktop PC and thin client architectures.

Read below to know the advantages of the Pano Logic virtual desktop PC

  • Software installations and upgrades are performed centrally
  • Server virtualization efficiently shares hardware across the entire user population.
  • Pano consumes only 5 watts – 3% of a typical PC – making it the ultimate green alternative
  • Pano provides complete virtualization solution that consists of Pano desktop devices and Pano server software that runs on top of virtualized servers. It also comes with an installer, for entry-level solution, which has the capacity to set up the entire software suite such as VMware Server that can deploy a virtualized desktop architecture in minutes.

Moreover, Pano can also be installed over the existing VMware ESX deployment but only for the virtualization software users.

An integrated Pano Button allows the use to choose from a set of actions that instantly solve desktop management problems by just a single touch. The Pano Button can be configured by IT or solution providers to orchestrate services provided by the server platform.

The configurable Pano Button actions include:

  • Rolling back from a corrupted Windows instance to a known good instance
  • Switching between virtual machines set up with software for different job functions
  • “The right model for desktop computing is to have zero software — and hence no pain — at the desktop, and to centralize all software and management in the data center. And when there is no software on the desktop, a majority of today’s desktop security problems vanish,” said Nick Gault, CEO of Pano Logic. “The Pano architecture fully delivers on the promise of virtualization for the desktop.”

Now, the security features of the Pano virtual desktop PC are:

  • USB security – granular access control can be set easily based on user and type of peripheral. Specific operations can be blocked, allowed, or recorded as needed
  • Information leakage prevention – local storage can be disabled to prevent users from copying information to local devices, including any USB devices
  • Network security – Traffic is protected using 128-bit AES encryption
  • Pano, the fastest, most convenient way to server-based desktop virtualization, will be available from September this year for $20 (approx. Rs. 800) per month on a subscription basis.
