RedEye mini dongles lot C0101 being recalled by ThinkFlood

ThinkFlood RedEye mini

iPhone/iPod touch/iPad users who bought the RedEye mini dongles that convert the devices into universal remote controls for home entertainment systems had better take a look at the serial numbers they’ve been stamped with. ThinkFlood has issued a callback for the RedEye mini devices displaying serial numbers starting with C0101.

ThinkFlood is recalling the dongles based on the probability that the units are likely to fail. The company cites that the C0101 lot manufacturer made tweaks to the design instead of soldering the headphone jack to the PCB. This resulted in vibrations which generate short circuits or breaks in the wiring connecting the headphone jack and the PCB fitted into the dongle.

The ensuing design change approved by ThinkFlood had the PCB attached to the plastic enclosure. The company claims to have dissected the dongle and discovered PCB secured into place with insufficient low-tack foam tape after being alerted to several failed units in field tests.

Users who’ve been delivered ReyEye mini units from lot C0101 can wait for replacement units from lot D0102 or get a full refund of their purchase. Meanwhile, the company will revert to manufacturing the dongle in accordance to the original design in future.
