Samsung makes new additions to its Galaxy range with the launch of the Galaxy Tab 8.9, plus the Galaxy Player 5.0 and 4.0. Measuring a mere 8.6mm, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 joins the ranks of its predecessor Tab 10.1, in the race for being one of the slimmest tabs in town. The Galaxy Player 5.0, 4.0 with 5 inch and 4 inch touchscreens, proffer entertainment on the move.
The similarities between the Tab 10.1 and the new entrant don’t just end at their profiles for the latter also incorporates Samsung’s TouchWiz UX powered by the Android Honeycomb platform. The user interface includes facets such as the ‘live panel’ that is a magazine-like widget on its homescreen, plus, there is a mini-mode tray that allows quick access to commonly used applications.
The Galaxy Tab 8.9 encompasses full support for Exchange ActiveSync version 14, Sybase MDM and Cisco WebEx, which provides easy conference solutions. Users also have Samsung’s media, music, readers and social hubs along with Google services, at their disposal. The tab comes with a FindMyMobile feature which not only prevents unauthorized access but also deletes personal information, when the gadget is lost.

The Galaxy Player 5.0 and 4.0 powered by Gingerbread are Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled. The gadgets sport rear as well as front facing cameras. These also come pre-loaded with 8GB of memory that is expandable up to 32GB.The players proffer a wide entertainment experience allowing users to enjoy music, videos games e-books and access social media, enabling them to stay in touch with their loved ones, when they are globe-trotting.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Player 5.0, 4.0 will begin shipping on October 2 and October 16, respectively. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 32GB version would be made available at a price of $569 (Rs. 27,858) while the 16GB version will retail at $469 (Rs. 22,967).
