webOS powered HP TouchPad debuts in UK

The HP TouchPad created quite a stir earlier this month when a $50 mail-in rebate was announced for webOS users in the US. And now the slate which has apparently failed to impress users is making news again with its launch in the UK.

Boasting of cutting edge hardware, it claims to provide an enhanced user experience with its operating system. It is said to have multitasking abilities along with Beats audio for an improved acoustic experience. Also integrated is the HP synergy feature which helps finding all the contact information using the Contact app.

With attributes like Just Type and Touch to Share, unique to webOS devices, it looks like the TouchPad wants to strike a chord with users. The slate can be used to browse flash driven websites as it supports the Adobe Flash Player 6 and 7.

“We’re really excited to be launching the HP TouchPad to UK consumers. This is our first tablet device powered by webOS and initial feedback from the media and consumers has been very positive. HP has an aggressive plan to bring the webOS operating system to millions of devices over the coming months, and the HP TouchPad is an important first step,” stated Paul Hunter, Vice President, HP Personal Systems Group (PSG) UK&I.

Seemingly, the company wants to leave no stone unturned to make sure the product is well accepted in the UK. It will be endorsed on a large scale through various media by some well known personalities.

The HP TouchPad comes in variants of 16GB and 32GB priced at £399 (approx. Rs. 28,600) and £479 (approx. Rs. 34,335), respectively. The device is up for sale at HP stores and other leading retail outlets in the UK.
