The Toshiba Thrive 7-inch tablet had announced its plans of arriving in December, a couple of months ago and the tab is now available through the company’s official website, in time for the holiday season. Recently, Toshiba also disclosed the availability details of the Excite slate for Canada, expected to go up on sale early next year.
The news about the device’s release has come our way through Engadget. The Honeycomb based slab operates with the help of the Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor running at a speed of 1GHz and 1GB LPDDR2 RAM. The front panel of the tab is dominated by a multi-touch widescreen spanning 7 inches. This display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and 1280 x 800p resolution is deployed with the Toshiba Adaptive Display technology as well as the Toshiba Resolution+ Video Enhancement technology.
Featuring a virtual QWERTY keypad with Swype, its Nvidia GeForce graphics adds to the visual capabilities rendered by this device. The 5MP camera on the back panel comes with attributes such as auto focus, LED flash, digital zoom and facilitates high definition video capturing of 720p resolution. The slate can also be used to engage in video conferencing over the internet with the aid of the front facing 2MP HD webcam along with a microphone.
It comes in variants possessing internal storage capacities of 16GB and 32GB and allows expanding its memory through the microSD card slot. Encased in an Easy Grip back cover, the lightweight Toshiba Thrive 7-inch tablet is embedded with buttons for power and volume controls. It is integrated with a 15Wh Prismatic Lithium-ion battery which should cough up the juice for about 6 hours. Besides 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version 3.0, the slab can be connected to systems and peripherals through outputs like a microUSB 2.0 port, a microHDMI connector and a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack.
