WebOS enabled TouchPad hops out of HP’s closet

The most recent news circulating in the tech world talks about iPad 2 under production and the possibility of the iPad 3 popping its head soon. Well, the tablet zone on the other side of the ‘i’ world has also geared up extensively. The next to follow is HP with the enlarged WebOS infused in its new TouchPad.

The integrated 9.7-inch diagonal capacitive touchscreen comes with the multi-touch ability while the webOS slate also maintains support for virtual keyboard, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta, Wi-Fi, social networking and more. Designed for mobile productivity, the TouchPad touts to offer a unique experience and give access to thousands of applications.

“Today we’re embarking on a new era of webOS with the goal of linking a wide family of HP products through the best mobile experience available,” said Jon Rubinstein, senior vice president and general manager, Palm Global Business Unit, HP. “The flexibility of the webOS platform makes it ideal for creating a range of innovative devices that work together to keep you better connected to your world.”

It can be connected to your webOS phone. Moreover, HP’s touch-to-share feature enables users to share web URLs. HP Synergy instantly populates the TouchPad with contacts, calendar and email on signing into accounts like Facebook, Google and so on. Powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-CPU APQ8060 1.2-GHz processor, it packs in 16GB or 32GB storage space, Bluetooth, various multimedia options, 1.3 megapixel camera, accelerometer, compass (magnetometer) and gyroscope.

An extended battery life and integrated GPS (3G only) are also delivered by the device. The webOS also promises multitasking while the support for Wi-Fi allows users to stay connected with friends and family. The device is in works with Quickoffice to feature the Quickoffice Connect Mobile suite. The TouchPad incorporates company’s Touchstone technology, offering compatibility with separately sold TouchStone. Users can also lay their hands on the separately sold TouchPad case.

HP’s this innovative offering is expected to be made available in summer and does not reveal any pricing details or the exact release date.
