Synology XS Series NAS Servers Unveiled

Synology XS Series NAS Server

Network attached storage appears to be the need of the hour for businesses but getting performance as well good storage is a rarity. Synology seems to be trying to find an answer to this problem. The Synology XS Series NAS servers are expandable to over 100TB dynamically and offer up to 4GB Ethernet and dual 10GB Ethernet aggregations.

The Synology XS Series consists of a 12-bay DiskStation DS3611xs and the 10-bay RackStation RS3411xs/RS3411RPxs DS3611xs which are designed for large scale businesses. Their storage volume can be expanded by means of InfiniBand cables that bring 12Gb/s SATA signal to provide high-bandwidth connectivity. The servers are outfitted with Intel Core possessors and capable of delivering a data throughput of 1,000 MB/sec and 100,000 IOPS with link aggregation enabled.

“The XS series NAS servers are designed to scale up both storage capacity and performance in accordance with businesses’ growth. Synology transforms costly and unattainable technology into the XS series NAS servers that are economical and easy to approach,” revealed Derren Lu, CEO of Synology.

These machines, which are powered by DiskStation Manager 3.1, deliver a competitive cost/capacity ratio of 0.25 USD per GB when paired with enterprise-class hard drives. The redundant power supplies on the RS3411RPxs and the RX1211RP offer continual service uptime. System reliability is ensured by failover support on all network ports, hot-swappable drives design and expandable ECC RAM module.

David Tuhy, general manager, Intel Storage Group, also commented, “Intel is working closely with companies like Synology to provide key technologies for the growing business storage appliances segment. The Intel Core processor family with Intel 200 Series Chipset provides customers with energy efficient processors and data protection to grow with the end user demand for more disks.”

Efficient power consumption is another trait of these servers as they consume up to 28W in operation and 78W when hibernated. Moreover, in Deep Sleep mode all the expansion units reduce up to 95 percent of power consumption. The iSCSI support enables the xs series to integrate with major virtualization servers including the VMware vSphere, Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V. Furthermore, the Windows ADS and ACL support permits the servers to adjust easily in business environments.

The Synology XS Series NAS Servers which include the DS3611xs, RS3411xs/RS3411RPxs, DX1211, and RX1211/RX1211RP models are now available for purchase globally.
