Toshiba sculpts 1.8-inch drives with low-insertion force SATA connectors

The demand for efficient and compact backup solutions is increasing as users can store as well as protect business data and personal information with ease. Toshiba has doffed the silk off its MKxx39GSL series 1.8-inch drives with low-insertion force SATA connectors.

These solutions can be seamlessly used in various devices, including tablets, consumer electronics devices and external HDDs. The newest MKxx39GSL series can be snapped up in varying capacities like 160GB MK2239GSL, 200GB MK2039GSL and 220GB MK1639GSL. These units claim to lower power consumption and put forth quite operation.

“These new drives build on Toshiba’s history of innovation and leadership in the 1.8″ drive segment,” commented Maciek Brzeski, vice president of mobile marketing at Toshiba Storage Device Division. “Designers of next-generation consumer electronics, tablets, and mobile devices need disk drives that will stand up to the demands of day-to-day usage in a world increasingly defined by mobility and connectivity to all forms of content. These newest members of our 1.8″ family are designed to meet those demands.”

The newest series touts to be designed for applications which require smaller footprint of 1.8-inch drives along with advanced storage capacities. Besides 16MB buffer, the offerings boast of their ability to surpass 1,500Gs of non-operational shock and 600Gs of operational shock. These drives function efficiently and require 0.35 watts of power.

Further, Toshiba shares that samples will be available for customer qualification in February.
