Western Digital has released its Scorpio Blue 9.5mm 1TB internal HDD, ideal for notebooks. With laptops getting smaller, huge capacity drives lack compatibility because they take up too much space. The company’s 9.5mm, 2.5-inch HDD is said to fit in any standard notebook.
Designed with ruggedness, reliability and data-protection features, the device is claimed to utilize 500GB per-platter areal density. Also, the drive is said to provide users with high performance to devices that require an extended battery life along with cool and ultra quiet operation.
“With the release of the 1 TB WD Scorpio Blue notebook drive in a 9.5 mm package, WD is able to offer the greatest storage capacity available for use in portable computing environments. Mobile users no longer need to choose maximum capacity over thin and light, WD is ready with storage options, achieved without compromise to performance and reliability, that prove ideal for mobile digital devices of all kinds including PC and Mac notebook computers; external storage; and digital media players,” commented Matt Rutledge, vice president and general manager of Client Storage for WD.
Equipped with features like low power consumption, the WD Scorpio Blue 9.5mm 1TB internal HDD utilizes advanced power management along with algorithms which optimizes the hard disk to improve on performance. And to silence internal sounds, the device is equipped with the Whisper Drive technology that eliminates all sounds from within. For protecting the disk from getting hit by the recording head, the SecurePark holds the recording head in place during spin ups and spin downs. Also with the 400Gs shock specification, the device mechanics and platter surface is said to be shock-proof. Utilizing the Advanced Format (AF) technology from Western Digital, the Scorpio Blue HDD is compatible and tested with Windows 7, Windows Vista and Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard.
WD Scorpio Blue 9.5mm 1TB internal HDD has commenced its shipment and is available through selected distributors and retailers. The device is priced at $139 (approx. Rs. 6,163) and comes with a limited three-year warranty.
