The Kingston DataTraveler Micro has been launched with the claim of being one of the world’s smallest USB flash drives. It boasts of a diminutive 25.6mm x 16.7mm x 8.4mm form factor and tips the scale at a mere 4g.

Potential users will have a choice between the device’s 8GB and 16GB variants. Needless to say, the miniature drive complies with the USB 2.0 specification standards. But in addition to that, it is also backwards compatible with USB 1.0. So users can connect the USB flash drive to their slim notebooks, netbooks, PCs or even to car audio systems and groove to the music stored on the gadget.

“Kingston’s DataTraveler Micro is a versatile USB Flash drive that is perfect for use with different devices such as tablets that have a USB port or in slim notebooks. Due to its small size, it is also convenient to be left plugged in while on the go,” shares Nathan Su, Flash Memory Sales Director, APAC Region, Kingston.

The drive should work seamlessly with systems running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Mac OS X v.10.5 and above as well as Linux v.2.6.x and above. Its small size is probably an advantage since it will allow users the option to leave the device connected to their laptops or other gadgets during travels. Additionally, it may not block other ports which could probably be an issue with bulkier flash drives.

The Kingston DataTraveler Micro flash drive comes supported by the company’s five year warranty as well as free technical support.
