Hitachi G-Technology HDDs in 8TB and 4TB capacities launched

Hitachi G-Technology HDDs

Hitachi G-Technology has expanded its range of external hard drives with the recent release of two Thunderbolt-enabled HDDs in 4TB and 8TB capacities. These devices operate on speeds up to 10Gbps.

Specially crafted for Apple Mac and creative professional audio/video (A/V) markets, the company claims that their latest devices are apt for the fields of entertainment and films. They seem to provide credible sustained throughput for handling multi-stream compressed HD workflows such as REDCODE, DVCPro HD, XDCAM HD and ProRes 422. The 8TB RAID model is capable of storing hours of clips, composites, digital intermediate (DIs), proofs and effects.

James Ho, vice president, Asia Pacific, Hitachi GST stated, “We understand the process of creation, and today, digital video editing is no longer facility-driven – It’s driven by the places and lifestyles of the people doing the work. Our G-RAID Thunderbolt demo connected to a MacBook Pro shows how our customers can get lightning speed and huge capacity in a single RAID 0 storage solution to easily edit anywhere. Built like a tank, our G-RAID solution has been the cornerstone of our business, and we look forward to bringing our Thunderbolt-based family and 4TB-based solutions to the market. With G-Technology’s high quality, high performance commitment, our customers can continue to focus on their work and not on their equipment.”

When connected, the two HDDs can transform the Mac into a portable editing workstation. They reportedly deliver high speeds and come with huge capacities allowing easier transferring, processing and editing of SD or HD content on the go.

The Hitachi G-Technology 8TB and 4TB external HDDs will commence shipping from the first quarter of 2012.
