Smart Optimus SAS SSD to feature 1Gbps read speeds

Smart Optimus SAS SSD

Claimed to be the ‘world’s fastest multi-level cell and highest capacity SAS SSD’, the recently unveiled Smart Optimus SAS SDD for enterprise storage applications do so with the hardware packing in 1.6TB of usable capacity and the native Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 6Gbps interface. Although, the acclaimed ‘best’ in devices never stays for too long with newer technology emerging.

With the capability of satisfying the demands of input/output intensive, cloud-based and web-facing applications, the device can deliver high performance, endurance, and reliability over read/write speeds of 100K/50K random IOPS and 500/500MB/s sustained transfer rates. Additionally, to provide up to 1Gbps of read speed, the Smart Optimus SSD supports the wide-port SAS capability. Featuring the FlashGuard, DataGuard, and EverGuard technologies, data integrity and drive reliability are ensured to never get compromised. Also, the device comes incorporated with the Guardian technology which satisfies the demanding requirements of Tier-1 enterprise storage applications.

John Scaramuzzo, Smart’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, Storage Business Unit commented, “The Optimus SSD is a game changer. By leveraging MLC flash memory and Smart’s unique IP, we provide the industry’s highest performance and highest capacity enterprise-class MLC SSD at a value point that we expect will accelerate SSD adoption in the enterprise. Satisfying the needs of an enterprise storage customer takes more than just an industry-leading product, it also requires a seasoned team with experience in the enterprise storage business. Smart is perfectly positioned to satisfy all of these needs.”

Allowing a five warranty at usage rates of ten full writes in a day, the FlashGuard along with the Aggregated Flash Management and Advanced Signal Processing technology can extract higher endurance characteristics out of the MLC flash. Additionally built using extensive experience in flash technology, SAS firmware, and enterprise storage, the Optimus SSD features full T10 DIF support and TCG enterprise encryption

The Smart Optimus SAS SSD will be available for sampling in September and comes in 200GB, 400GB, 800GB, and 1.6TB capacities. Also, the device will be featured at the Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara, CA on August 9, 2011.
