Western Digital tosses in new external hard drive lineup

Western Digital has been carving out portable storage solutions using high-quality materials to render maximum speed and store rich media content collected by computing enthusiasts and business professionals. The company has now rolled out its latest My Passport Essential, My Passport Essential SE and My Book Essential external hard drives in India.

These new solutions boast of USB 3.0 connectivity and can be snapped up in different capacities. The My Book Essential external hard drive is available in 1TB, 2TB and 3TB capacities. Featuring WD SmartWare visual backup software, these units are fully compatible with USB 2.0 connections. Users can enjoy transfers speeds of around 5GB/s when these drives are connected to a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port.

“With more and more devices like the iPod touch, iPhone4 and other smartphones adding video-capable cameras, digital video is becoming ubiquitous. Most homes already have thousands of photos and music files, increasing the need for storage around the house. Having the extra capacity to store these files and move them around quickly is becoming a big issue for many consumers around the world,” commented Sushil Bandi, Country Manager for the Indian Subcontinent, Western Digital.

The My Passport Essential 500GB drive touts to be an ideal travel buddy and comes dressed in attractive shades of midnight blue, cool silver, real red, pacific blue and arctic white. On the other hand, the My Passport Essential SE drives can be picked up in 750GB and 1TB capacities as well as eye-catchy hues such as black, silver, metallic blue and metallic red.

“WD’s newest line of My Book and My Passport external hard drives features the latest USB 3.0 connection technology, which more than triples the speed to transfer media files, but still works with today’s USB 2.0 ports. In addition, consumers can take advantage of the highest capacity available on external hard drives with the new 3 TB My Book Essential drive,” added Sushil Bandi.

The My Book Essential external hard drives are crafted with sleek attributes. These drives are compatible with USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. Equipped with WD SmartWave visual backup software, these units can be snapped up in capacities ranging from 1TB up to 3TB. These new entrants are formatted NTFS for Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. Besides, these drives require reformatting for Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard.

The My Passport Essential 500GB drive can be grabbed for Rs. 4,299. The My Passport Essential SE 750GB drive is tagged at Rs. 5,499 and 1TB drive at Rs. 6,499. The My Book Essential 1TB, 2TB and 3TB drives can be snapped up for Rs. 4,999, Rs. 7,499 and Rs. 10,999 respectively. These offerings can be purchased from various retailers.
