Those who are on the lookout for a portable storage device that offers multiple levels of data protection may want to read this tidbit. LaCie has unveiled the Rugged Safe which is a mobile HDD attributed with 128-bit AES hardware encryption.
This plug and play device is powered through USB or FireWire and extends compatibility with Mac or PC. The internal hard drive is mounted on four independent suspensions. The exterior is shock tolerant and displays a rubber bumper to protect it from damage. It was designed by Neil Poulton and allows users to share stored content with up to 10 registered users.
Erwan Girard, LaCie Business Unit manager, explained, “The LaCie Rugged Safe was developed to enable professional or private users to protect their valuable data and intellectual property from theft and unauthorized access. We’ve synthesized a range of technologies to ensure this device is the safest and most mobile storage solution a real vault for your data.”
The unit is endowed with biometric fingerprint authentication technology that protects it from illegal or unauthorized access and proffers 500GB storage capacity. Owners can access stored content with just one finger swipe once configured. It offers Mac and PC owners user-friendly and customizable LaCie Backup Assistant.
The Rugged Safe will be available at the LaCie Storage Partners, LaCie Online Store, LaCie Reseller+ and LaCie Corner with a 3 year limited warranty. It is expected to be priced at $189.99 (approx. Rs.8,964).
