One thing that seems ubiquitous in every hardcore computer user’s wish list is more storage. The new Z-Drive m84 PCIe SSD forms part of OCZ Technology’s line of Z-Drives that are meant to offer an option to the mainstream market for high-tech storage that is also affordable.

The bootable internal RAID 0 configured drive is infused with MLC NAND. It accommodates many functions and applications such as video editing, and creation cum management of numerous other multimedia. By erasing SATA from the picture, the PCIe interface claims to function at a higher speed than contemporary SATA-based SSDs. The 256GB Z-Drive has read and write speeds of 750MB/s and 650MB/s, respectively.

“The OCZ m84 Z-Drive is the newest addition to our line of PCI-E solid state drives and is designed to offer consumers a high performance yet aggressively priced solid state solution. While the previously released p84 and e84 Z-Drives were intended specifically for enterprise applications, the m84 delivers much of the same performance but at a price point that is competitive with standard SSD drives. This is the first time that such a high performance PCI-E based SSD that is optimized for media editing, gaming, and workstation productivity, has been so within the reach of power users,” declared Eugene Chang, VP of Product Management, OCZ Technology Group.

For those who now swear by SSDs, OCZ’s drives come in capacities of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. The m84 is backed by technical support and a 3-year warranty by the company.

The price tag attached to this SSD is still under wraps.

Do you know if it is possible to boot windows XP or 7 from this superfast card? If yes, which mainboard has the compatibility with that?
