Toshiba now extends its SSD range. The company has announced the availability of its 43nm MLC NAND SSDs.

These SSDs are available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities. Toshiba will initially offer these drives only to OEMs in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch enclosures. The drives will specifically target the notebook, gaming and home entertainment market.

“The customer qualifications we’ve received attest to the enhanced performance of our second generation drives in improving the overall computing experience through reduction in wait times and faster boot and application loading,” said Scott Nelson, vice president, memory, for TAEC. “Our SSD read and write speeds are among the fastest in the industry, based on our benchmarking, including H2benchw scores.”

The advanced multi-channel MLC controller delivers a maximum sequential read speed of 230Mbps and a maximum sequential write speed of 180Mbps. The AES data encryption technology is said to restrict unauthorized data access. The drives feature a Serial ATA-2, 3Gbps interface and are capable of operating flawlessly between zero and 70 degree Celsius temperature range.

Toshiba has only affirmed that it has started shipping these drives to more than five leading mobile PC brands. However, the company has refrained from revealing the names. Whether these drives will be sold separately or not, is still unknown. The pricing details of the Toshiba 43mn SSDs are still under wraps.
