HP MediaSmart Server ex485/ex487 with reliable automatic backup for PC and Mac

HP MediaSmart Server ex485/ex487 Centralize your media with the new HP MediaSmart Server ex485/ex487 with reliable automatic backup for your digital music, videos, photos and documents from multiple computers on a home network. Designed for both PC and Mac, MediaSmart Server takes back up on Macs running Leopard using Apple Time Machine software. It’s a safe place to treasure all your memories.

“A growing number of digital-savvy households have both Windows and Mac computers, with hundreds and sometimes thousands of media files and documents scattered across these devices,” said Jason Zajac, vice president of strategy, Worldwide Attach Group, HP. “The HP MediaSmart Server protects, stores and organizes this content from anywhere on a network so consumers can access and share it any place they are connected.”

Remotely stream photos and music to any Internet-connected PC or Mac, easily upload photos to several social networking sites, share photos with your loved ones with the HP Photo Viewer and the HP Media Collector conveniently copies and centralizes digital files and libraries from networked PCs. The server backup and online backup (Amazon S3) helps duplicate designated shared folders and the latter also adds an extra layer of protection.

It equips Intel Celeron, 2.0 GHz 64-bit, 2 GB 800-MHz DDR2 DRAM and consumes less power as the smart power management schedules “sleep” and “wake up” time. You can expand it using additional drives up to 9TB.

The HP MediaSmart Server ex485 with 750 GB of hard disk storage is expected to be priced at $599 (approx Rs. 28,998) while the suggested retail price of HP MediaSmart Server ex487 with 1.5 TB is $749 (approx Rs. 36,259). They are available for online pre-order through Amazon, BestBuy, Buy, Frys and NewEgg from January 5, 2009. Apparently, they will start shipping in February.
