Verbatim’s Next Generation 2.5 HDDs boasting 500GB Storage space, Launched in India

Verbatim today introduced its latest line of 2.5″ Portable Hard Drives (HDDs), including the world’s first half-Terabyte 2.5″ Portable Hard Disk Drive (HDD) sporting an 9.5mm Z-height drive in India.

This palm-sized external drive ensures not only a high-capacity storage but also fast, easy way to store, backup, share and transfer multimedia files. The Verbatim portable drives come in storage capacities of 120 to 500GB.

Enclosed in a sleek black and silver design, the Verbatim’s 500GB 2.5″ SmartDisk HDD measures 86mm X 137mm X 16mm and weighs of 170 grams to superior mobility. Claiming to be the world’s first 500 GB 2.5-inch HDD to feature an industry standard 9.5mm Z-height drive, it is protected under the rugged and ultra-modern case.

Besides, the SmartDisk is equipped with three 166GB platters, which make use of advanced Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology for breakthrough storage capacity in a small form factor. With the 5400rpm spindle speed and 8MB of cache memory, you will enjoy the optimize performance.

“Being able to add half a Terabyte of storage to your PC or Mac with such a small, easy to carry device is a new milestone in the portable storage industry,” said Ramesh Tuli the Country Manager for Verbatim India. “Imagine the convenience of being able to store, transport and backup all of your digital content without having to span disks or carry multiple storage solutions.”

Supporting both Macs and PCs, the latest portable hard disk drives have the ability to back-up software by just plugging into the USB port of a computer. Along with the drag-and-drop feature, users can also navigate their HD in Open, save dialogue boxes, and delete files stored on the HD.

Verbatim’s hard drives are compatible with the latest operating systems such as Vista and Leopard. For data backups Verbatim’s 2.5″ HD combo (USB/Firewire) drives offer the “Time Machine” back-up feature of the Leopard Mac OS X operating system from Apple. In the USB models, Nero’s “BackItUp 2 Essentials” software is used, providing professional data back-up with a range of individual settings.

Verbatim’s new range of 2.5” HDDs is available through its distributors across India. However, pricing is still not known.
