Seagate Momentus Thin Hard Drive

Seagate has collaborated with Archos to provide users with the storage capacity of a hard disk in their handheld devices. The Seagate Momentus Thin hard drive with a memory of 250GB will be incorporated in the Archos G9 8-inch and 10-inch tablets, touted to be the first tablet with built-in hard drive.

The slim 2.5-inch hard drive with a 7mm profile is said to complement the 1.5GHz dual core processor powered tablets. The hard drive can also be used in notebooks, laptops and other portable electronic devices. Its SmartAlign technology easily switches to 4K sectors without utilizing software. Hard drives with 16MB of cache are available at speeds of either 7200rpm or 5400rpm.

“Seagate continues to break new ground in the development of products and technologies that matter most to customers by delivering the Momentus Thin drive for these powerful Archos tablets. The Momentus Thin drive gives tablet buyers a compelling option, providing great storage capacity and performance that dovetail with the processing power of the new Archos products for great Android and multimedia experiences,” commented Rocky Pimentel, Seagate Chief Sales and Marketing Officer.

The Seagate Momentus drives will be available in capacities of 160GB, 250GB and 320GB at comparatively low costs. These FIPS 140-2 certified drives come with optional government-grade encryption to secure the information saved on it. Seagate also announced its battery powered Wi-Fi-enabled GoFlex wireless storage device with a 500GB capacity.
