Here’s an offering that lets developers and end users program new applications faster and in a more efficient manner. Marvell has introduced the Easy Plug Computer Installer which is a wizard-based installation tool for the company’s Plug Computer that is powered by the 2GHz Marvell Armada 300 processor.

The application can be used to install Linux distributions, file systems and file system images as well as single applications. Not only does it allow users to update Plug Computers, but it also offers USB key and HTTP-based list retrieval functionality apart from operability with Marvell Armada 310 processors too.

“Marvell wants to encourage more developers to explore Plug Computing and the high performance, eco-friendly open source computing platform,” explained Viren Shah, Senior Director of Marketing Embedded SoC Product Line from Marvell’s Enterprise Business Unit.

Users are provided with detailed instructions on deployment of software with this offering. Additionally, the tool can be used with Windows XP SP2/3, 32 and 64-bit Fedora 11, 32-bit Ubuntu 9.04 and Leopard OSX.

“There’s a broad array of Plug Computing application ideas waiting to be discovered. EPI further enables the software and hardware community to easily integrate their solutions and reap the always-on benefits of the Plug Computer,” added Shah.

The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ready Plug Computer comes with an in-built HDD. It also allows users to connect DAS through the USB 2.0 port. The Plug Computer lends support to multiple standard Linux 2.6 kernel distributions or rapid application development.

Marvell’s Easy Plug Computer Installer and Plug Computers are being exhibited at the OSCON 2010 tradeshow in Portland, Oregon.
