Pioneer S-DJ08 Speakers

We had previously penned a post pertaining to Pioneer’s new speaker line for home theater and music reproduction. The company has now come up with its first series of active reference monitoring speakers namely, the S-DJ08 and the S-DJ05. These proffer audio parameter control, built-in linear equalization, excellent sound quality, along with four switchable inputs.

Both of them also endow audiophiles with the ability to alter settings like the audio inputs and sound characteristics through a unique manual controller. Featuring a curved waveguide enclosure, these speakers attain a wider listening area. The enclosure deploys the soft-dome tweeter’s sound in a broader pattern offering better imaging and staging. Moreover, the bass reflex enclosure expands the lower frequency range supplying extra mid-bass and bass output.

“Whether it’s producing music at home, DJing or simply auditioning music, consumers will realize the high quality sound they’re hearing out of these new Pioneer DJ speakers. We’ve also added the ability for DJs and producers who have made a career of music performance and enabled them to make quick audio adjustments to volume, power, equalization and channel inputs via a really cool looking manual controller,” asserted David Arevalo, senior marketing manager, Professional Sound and Visual Division for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.

Besides featuring a low resonance chimney-style heat sink, robust 10cm high-force magnets (S-DJ08) for better control of the subwoofers coupled with a bi-amp circuit that drives the tweeter and woofer separately are also offered. Furthermore, the speakers provide first-rate audio quality that would give users an excellent aural experience. The built-in linear equalizer allows music aficionados to fine tune the sound to suit their genre of music. It enables them to alter the high and low bands ranging from -6dB to +6dB to amplify the tonal quality of instruments while creating music.

With the control accessory, users can concurrently use the power, volume, and four switchable input channels of both speakers. The dial style control knob blends in the ability to adjust the muting and the equalizer of both the speakers. Moreover, they feature an eco-friendly Auto Standby feature. These are loaded with four types of inputs namely XLR, TRS and two sets of RCA which offer simultaneous connectivity to several devices.

The S-DJ08 and S-DJ05 speakers come packed with a controller, a link cable, two power cables and eight rubber feet. A pair of either speaker tip the scale at 59.52lbs. Both of them are equipped with a Bi-amp 2-way powered speakers and 2.5cm soft dome tweeter. The S-DJ05 measures 7.28 × 11.85 × 10.16 inch, whereas the other one comes up to 9.84 × 15.39 × 14.61 inch along with the heat sink.

The S-DJ08 and S-DJ05 are slated for a January 2011 release and will be sold for a suggested retail price of $1,199 (approx Rs. 53,283.56) per pair and $899 (approx Rs. 39,951.56) per pair, respectively.
